The lead up to the birth of a child is one filled with excitement and joy. The baby bag is by the door, you’ve reread all of the books on childbirth, everyone’s on edge with nerves and delight. A baby is coming into this world.
For new parents Jevaughn Suckoo, 26, and Stephanie Caceres, 27, however, the days leading up to and including childbirth were filled with tragedy. Instead of planning for their lives with twins, they were planning for a funeral.
On July 11, at approximately 7:30pm, Jevaughn was shot and killed by unknown assailants outside of the Renaissance Apartments where he and Stephanie lived. Police are unsure who the killers were and currently have no suspects.
His death left Stephanie to raise their two-year-old daughter, Kailanie, alone with the twins just 9 days after their birth. But, as Stephanie and Jevaughn’s family were preparing for a funeral, she got an infection from a Caesarean section.
On the day of Jevaughn’s funeral, Stephanie died from that infection. Kailanie, Jevaughn Jr. and Lailah were orphans. Their grandparents will take custody.
“We’re just trying to figure out how to move forward,” said Stephanie’s aunt Joni Saunders in an interview with the Palm Beach Post.
A GoFundMe was set up by Stephanie’s office manager, Lina Niemczyk, in order to help the three kids with healthcare and education.
There are still no leads on Jevaughn’s slayers.
